You’re a College of Liberal Arts undergraduate or graduate student, and you have a great idea related to your research or coursework. Well, it might be a great idea – you’re not sure yet. You need a little help to dig deeper. Maybe you need a piece of software, access to an online training video, or some special hardware or equipment. The LATIS Labs Pollinator Program is here to help!  LATIS will assist with the purchase of hardware, software, or reusable training materials up to $1500. You’ll get access to the resources you need. Then you’ll help document what you learned and return the resources to LATIS, so you can help spur the next innovative project.

How do I make a request?

To participate in the LATIS Labs Pollinator Program:

  1. Chat with a LATIS staff member in person or e-mail with a brief description (just a few sentences) of the hardware, software, or training materials you’re interested in.  The LATIS staff member will review your needs, just to make sure it’s not something we already have access to.
  2. Then, write a short (1-2 page) request, describing the resources you’re requesting and how you’ll be using them. Submit your request to
  3. Your request will be reviewed by LATIS staff. They’re just checking to make sure there are no administrative concerns or safety risks. Once they’ve given it the OK, LATIS staff will contact you and work with you to get the resources ordered.

What else do I need to do?

When you’re done with your investigation, or within six months (whichever comes first) you’ll provide us with a short blog post that we can share on our blog. Describe your successes, roadblocks you encountered, or ideas for how others might learn from your experience.

Any items purchased as part of the LATIS Labs Pollinator Program need to be returned to a LATIS Labs space at the end of your investigation (or within one year, whichever comes first). This allows the whole college to benefit from and build upon your experience.

I’m excited about this and want to learn more! How can I get in touch?

The 2016-2017 school year is the first time we’re offering this program. We’re just getting started. We’ve set aside up to $15,000 for projects this year. We’d love your feedback on this program, even if you choose not to make a request. Is this a cool opportunity? Do you think you may request something in the future? Why or why not? Just e-mail us at and let us know your thoughts!
